Humility embraces insight while admitting ignorance. On the other hand, pride avoids the appearance of needing insight and being ignorant to preserve a self image of superiority. Prideful individuals will try to find a way to appear completely right or at least not completely wrong. If you are too prideful to receive insight at the expense of your self image, you are fooling yourself and hurting your relationship with others and God. Desiring a self image of superiority will make you see insight as a competition rather than a collaborated effort with others to grow together. This competition is not healthy for the unification of the body and will only lead to contention and division. Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised [is] wisdom. (Proverbs 13:10) Amen.
